Biography

Michela Taeggi, born in Varese (italy), is a visual artist who lives and works in Bergamo. After a career in photojournalism with the most important national newspapers, today she dedicates herself to research photography and education through the use of various means, such as photo collage, writing and artist books. In 2013 her project “Love grows” was selected in the short list category People, at the Sony World Photography Awards. She received an honorable mention during the Photo Annual Awards, for her project “Child of the Woods” in the category (E) Motions Series, 2014. Her work has been exhibited in Italy and abroad, in group and solo exhibitions. She is the author of several editorial publications. In 2020 she founded Immagini In Movimento, community dedicated to photographic culture and education.

Michela Taeggi, nasce a Varese e dopo aver vissuto qualche anno a Milano, si trasferisce a Bergamo dove oggi vive e lavora. Dopo una carriera nel fotogiornalismo con le testate nazionali più importanti, oggi si dedica alla fotografia di ricerca e alla formazione. Nel 2013 il suo progetto “Love grows” è stato selezionato nella short list categoria People, al Sony World Photography Awards. Riceve la menzione d’onore durante il  Photo Annual Awards, per il suo progetto “Child of the Woods”  nella categoria  (E) Motions Serie, 2014. Il suo lavoro è stato esposto in Italia e all’estero in mostre collettive e personali. E’ autrice di alcune pubblicazioni editoriali. Nel 2020 fonda Immagini In Movimento, una community dedicata alla cultura fotografica e alla formazione.

Artist Statement

Michela Taeggi’s artistic research is aimed at exploring themes such as absence, memory, time, transformation, in an intricate relationship between visible and invisible. Nature, where present, is represented in relation to the emotional or psychological state of man. His purely photographic research often borders on different languages such as collage and writing or participatory art projects, creating a visual dialogue dictated by a poetics always in the balance between destruction and creation. Through photography, he examines the perceptive universe, transforming reality into an act of visual exploration that is often ambiguous or chaotic. It is a continuous research aimed at revealing a dimension invisible to the eyes, intimate, sometimes complex and often elusive.

La ricerca artistica di Michela Taeggi è volta all’esplorazione tematiche come l’assenza, la memoria, il tempo, la trasformazione, in un’intricata relazione fra visibile ed invisibile. La natura, dove presente, viene rappresentata in relazione allo stato emotivo o psicologico dell’uomo. La sua ricerca prettamente fotografica, spesso sconfina in linguaggi differenti come il collage e la scrittura o progetti di arte partecipata, creando un dialogo visivo dettato da una poetica sempre in bilico tra distruzione e creazione. Attraverso la fotografia esamina l’universo percettivo trasformando la realtà in un atto di esplorazione visiva che risulta spesso ambiguo o caotico. È una continua ricerca volta a svelare una dimensione invisibile agli occhi, intima, a volte complessa e spesso inafferrabile.
